Music Theory Fundamentals for Metal Guitarists

What to Expect

In this class I will teach you all of the fundamentals of music theory that you would learn in a university or conservatory in a way that is relevant to metal guitar playing and songwriting; for a fraction of the price.

❋ Quick and to-the-point

A semester’s worth of information explained over the course of 8, 60min sessions, twice a week for one month.

❋ Metal Relevant

Every concept will be demonstrated with real metal music examples.

❋ For Guitarists

While the musical information is relevant to all musicians, I will be teaching all of the material as I personally view it on the fretboard. Every concept will be explained theoretically and practically so you can actually play the material on your guitar.

Note reading ability NOT required. We will discuss all info in a guitar-friendly way.

❋ Taught Live; Learn from Anywhere

Join me as a class LIVE on Zoom. I will teach and demonstrate the concepts in real time. Each class will also be recorded for students to access if they can’t attend one of the meetings.

When?

The next class runs May 13th to June 5th, 2026. There will be two 60-minute classes held live on Zoom each week for four weeks (8 sessions total). Each week there will be one class on Wednesdays 12-1pm CST and another on Fridays 4-5pm CST. Each class will be recorded for students who can’t attend a given session.

The first seven sessions will make up the actual class and the final session will be a 60-minute question period for students.

Actual Music I’ve Written Using This Material

The concepts that I teach in this class make up the musical foundation that I’ve built my songwriting process from. Here are some songs that I’ve written; none of which would have been possible without knowing music theory.
